Costco

Client: Costco Wholesale Australia
Artist: Louise Paramor

Brecknock Consulting was engaged by Costco Wholesale Australia, in 2008, to curate and project manage the VicUrban percent for art requirement, for their first Costco store in Australia, located at the Melbourne Docklands, within the Waterfront City precinct.

The Curatorial Rationale, Economies of Scale, called for four selected artists to explore “a tension between a structural formula and a site-specific solution; between global economies and forces of mass production and consumption and the unique occupation of this place with its unique history”.

Heavy Metal Jam Session, the selected artwork by artist Louise Paramor, is a series of sculptures, originally constructed from found objects in moulded plastic, and translated into larger scale forms in painted metal. The concept of mass produced goods stacked in quirky but balanced relationships relates strongly to the Costco warehouse, bringing the inside of the store to the outside plaza.
