Point Cook

Client: VicUrban & Walker Corporation
Artists: Maree Clarke, Vicki Couzens & Jeph Neale

Brecknock Consulting was engaged by Walker Corporation and VicUrban, to curate and project manage a public art commission for the Point Cook Civic Area, one of Australia’s most rapidly growing areas. The curatorial framework, based on the concept of interdependence, invited three artists in a competitive process to create works which might symbolise the dynamic inter-relationship which exists between and within communities, their local environments and resources. The site identified for the location of the work lies at the border between the Town Centre and neighbouring wetland and recreational park. Frog Dreaming, the selected artwork by Indigenous artists Maree Clarke and Vicki Couzens working with Jeph Neale from Artery Cooperative, is an abstract representation of a mass of frog eggs, create from stainless steel spheres. The work is inspired by the Growling Grass frog, a species once common to the grasslands and wetlands of the Point Cook area, now endangered and threatened.
