Expressing community values, diminishing an institutional and clinical atmosphere, and providing visual engagement for calming reflection, are just some of the benefits that public art provides to patients and staff alike in Health Centre environments. Brecknock Consulting was engaged by Queensland Health to manage public art commissions for sixteen new Health facilities throughout South-East Queensland. Funding for the artworks was provided through the former State Government Art Built-in Policy framework.
Photographer Bjorn Lie produced luminous light-boxes of the local landscape to feature within a distressed relatives’ room at Logan Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit. The relaxing and calming images can help take an anxious mind to another place and time. Works were also produced for the main waiting area by artist Brad Nunn.
