Eleanor Schonell Bridge
Client: Brisbane City Council, John Holland
Artists: Jodi Rose, Static Productions, Luke Beesley, Sam W Watson
The curatorial approach taken for the Eleanor Schonell Bridge focused on a narrative concept of "Building Bridges". Building bridges as represented in both the physical design and construction of the structure and the metaphoric building of bridges between communities. The artwork program "Building Bridges" is made up of a number of artwork story telling opportunities including both physical integration and digital programmable elements, which included text works integrated into the pedestrian walkway (Luke Beesley) and on the handrails (Sam W Watson) that are based on poems generated from the oral history transcripts and touch screen units installed on the bridge that feature options to listen to the oral history recordings and or 'singing bridge' soundscape (Jodi Rose).
